Ocean Pollution
Did you know, about 14 billion pounds of trash is dumped into the ocean each year? This is one of the main causes for our oceans being polluted. And in this blog, I will talk about how the ocean is being polluted.
By 2050, there will be more trash in the ocean than fish in the ocean. Here, I list some causes and effects of throwing trash into the ocean.
First is Chemical Impacts. When trash is thrown into the sea, chemicals associated with the accumulation and transport of persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic contaminants, like PCBs and pesticides will harm the fish and habitats. Secondly, is when fish try to digest these plastics. When fish digest plastic, or any type of trash, it causes all types of problems. Most being Internal and external wounds. But, one key to their survival is also limited. When these fish try to digest the plastic or trash, it will get blocked up and cause a dent in their digestive capacity.
Eight million metric tons. That's how much plastic we dump into the oceans each year. In this paragraph, I list facts about trash in the ocean.
One, since there’s so much trash in the sea, some trash piles up on beaches. This is called a garbage patch. And the biggest? According to conservation.org, “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch — includes an estimated 1.8 trillion pieces of trash and covers an area twice the size of Texas.” That's a lot of trash!
Two, China and Indonesia are the top ocean-trash producers. These two places produce more trash than any other place on earth! These two combined make them account for one-third of plastic pollution.
And finally, most ocean trash sits on the bottom of the ocean. As hard as its able to spot ocean trash, about 70 percent of ocean trash actually sinks to the seafloor, meaning we’re unlikely to ever be able to clean it up.
The ocean is a massive place that we have barely explored. We have discovered many new life forms and even, all life started in the water until it moved to land. But, as time goes on, we are putting more and more trash into the ocean, polluting it.
As you can see, ocean pollution needs action to be taken against it. It will soon, if no action is taken, pollute our waters entirely. This was a blog talking about the dangers of ocean pollution, and the effects it will take on waters. Thank you for reading.
Dump trash in the ocean is like putting it in your back yard. Yes, it's a place to put it but very soon your back yard will be a trash heap.
ReplyDeleteOur oceans are such a huge resource, not only for food but also as a temperature moderator and a carbon sink. If we don't make the effort to stop polluting then our wonderful earth might become a bad place to live.
My thanks to Roky for the responsible blog post.
Great job, just be careful that you don't have any one or two sentence paragraphs. You have some great facts here.
